Little Goose Water Treatment Feasibility Study

The Little Goose Water Treatment Feasibility Study is a study being conducted by Sheridan County to determine the feasibility of providing wastewater treatment service in the Little Goose valley south of the existing Sheridan city limits. The project was awarded to EnTech Professional Engineers of Sheridan in June, 2008 by the Sheridan County Board of County Commissioners. EnTech's subconsultant on the study is HDR, a worldwide consulting engineering firm that has tremendous experience in wastewater collection and treatment throughout both the Rocky Mountain area and worldwide. HDR has performed several wastewater projects for the City of Sheridan in recent years.

ROAD & BRIDGE PROJECTS UPDATE

Jan 5, 2010

Chloride Treatment

SR&B and their contractors applied 3,865 tons of chloride on 189 miles of county roads in 2009. This process not only prevents dust but more importantly it preserves the County's road surface material. It can cost over $50,000 per mile including the crushed base cost to place a 6 inch lift of crushed base compared to $5,000 a mile to treat the same mile with chloride.

Cottonwood Bridge

This project is currently on hold due to a lack of funding and an estimated cost of over $1,000,000.00 dollars to properly install a bridge across the drainage.

  SLIB GRANT 2005

Thompson Creek Rd

The Clear Creek bridge project has been completed and will allow work for the Thompson Creek Road to proceed.  Work on this road is scheduled for fiscal year 11/12.  Work will consist of culvert replacement/extensions, linear grading, and crushed base placement.

SLIB Grant Projects 2006

Dutch Creek Road/ Dow Prong Road

SR&B has placed a 6" lift of crushed base on 6.9 miles of Dutch Creek Road. The second lift (3") on 9.5 miles will be placed during the construction season for 2010One mile of Dow Prong Road still needs a second lift (3") of crushed base material.

Lower Prairie Dog

There are not any major projects scheduled on this road for the next fiscal year other than chloride application.

 SR - Buffalo Creek Road

The culvert project was completed in September 2009 for this roadway.  This work will allow the district operators to move forward with grading projects as their schedule allows.

Clear Creek Bridge

The replacement of the Clear Creek Bridge was completed in November of 2009.

Downer Addition County Road 80

EnTech Inc. is finalizing the design for this project and securing construction ROW.

 SLIB Grant Projects 2008

Beaver Creek Road

This project consisted of cleaning borrow ditches and placing a 4" lift of crushed base from the south end (Big Horn end) of the road to the entrance of the J.C. Pit. The project was completed in October 2009.

 Soldier Creek Road/Keystone Road

The realignment of these two roads was completed in August of 2009.

East Ridge Road

This project is currently in the design phase by the Sheridan County Engineering Department.

 Upper Powder River Road

A 3" lift of crushed base was placed on 7 miles and treated with calcium chloride in August of 2009.

 Pass Creek Road

A contract for the crushing of 70,000 tons of crushed base was awarded to McMurry Ready Mix Company in December. This work is scheduled for June of 2010. The Sheridan County engineering department has started a preliminary survey of the grading work for the 7 miles from X-X hill to the state line. Grading operations are scheduled for the summer of 2010.

CMAQ09

Upper Cat Creek Road

The district operator along with a hired contractor has completed the linear grading for this project. This work was done to widen the road, improve drainage, improve line of sight and in general improve the safety of this road. The contract for supplying and delivering crushed base to the job site will begin advertising in January 2010. The WORK is scheduled for August 2010.

High Risk Rural Roads

Lower Prairie Dog Road

This project is for the improvement of line of sight for approximately 0.5 miles north of the intersection with Beatty Gulch Road. The project will consist of 20,000 cubic yards of excavation for reduction of the vertical curve and improving the horizontal curve. The project is scheduled for fiscal year 10/11. The grant will also cover the cost of installing additional warning signs for the entire length of the road.

Beckton Road

This project is for the improvement of the line of sight on Beckton Hill (approximately 0.25 miles) and the installation of additional warning signs. The project is scheduled for fiscal year 10/11.

 GRAVEL PITS

Rhodes Pit

Plans are currently on hold for this pit.

Kusel Pit No. 3 / J.C. Ranch Quarry

Crushing operations are complete for both of these pits. SR&B will haul material from both of these pits to various roads.
