Concealed Weapons

Q. Where can I pick up an application for a concealed weapon permit?
A. Applications for new concealed weapon permits as well as applications may be obtained at the Sheriff's Office.

Q. How much does it cost to file a new Concealed Weapon permit?
A. The cost for filing a new permit is $81.00 cash if the Sheriff's Officer notarizes the request, and $79.00 if you have someone else notarize your form.

Q. How long is a Concealed Weapons Permit good for?
A. Concealed Weapons permits are good for 5 years.

Q. How much does it cost to renew my permit?
A. The cost of renewing your permit is $50.00 cash. If you renew after your permit expires, you will be required to pay an additional $10.00 cash.

Q. What do I need to bring with me when applying for a Concealed Weapon Permit?
A. In order to apply for a new permit, you must provide the Sheriff's Office with a copy of your Hunter's Safety certificate, DD-214 from the military, or other proof of gun proficiency.

Q. Do I have to be fingerprinted when applying for a Concealed Weapon Permit?
A. Yes. Fingerprinting is done Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30am to 12:00pm at the Sheriff's Office.

Q. Where can I obtain a copy of the rules and additional requirements for a Concealed Weapon Permit?
A. That information is available at the Sheriff's Office. To find out if other states will honor your Wyoming permit, contact the state agency for that state before you travel.

ID's & Fingerprinting

Q. When are fingerpriting and I.D. services available at the Sheriff's Office?
A. These services are available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30am to 12:00pm.

Q. Do I need to make an appointment for and I.D. card or fingerprints?
A. No. You only need to arrive during the times the services are available.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. I.D.'s are available for $10.00 & Fingerprints are available for $5.00

Q. What do I need to bring with me when I get an I.D. made?
A. You must have your birth certificate or a copy of it and some other form of identification. Examples would include your social security card, drivers' license, or anything else with your name on it?

Q. Will an I.D. card from the Sheriff's Office work for a State I.D.?
A. No, the I.D. card is not State Issue. If you need a State of Wyoming I.D. card, you may obtain it at the Drivers' License Bureau.

Civil Process

Q. How much does it cost for the Sheriff's Office Civil Process Server to serve a paper?
A. Effective July 1, 2007: The cost for service on all civil process papers is $35.00 per action or per address. The Sheriff's Office will attempt to serve the paper three times for that fee. An additional fee of $5.00 will be charged for each additional attempt at service.

Q. Where do I send papers that need to be served?
A. Mail papers for service to 54 West 13th Street, Sheridan, WY 82801
Please include a self addressed stamped envelope so that the service return may be sent to you. Please include any stipulations for your state that must be followed. Papers will not be served unless pre-payment is received.

Detention Center

Q. I would like to visit an inmate. What are the visiting hours?
A. EFFECTIVE MAY 15, 2007...
~Visiting hours for MALE inmates are Tuesdays from 7:30PM to 10:00PM & Sundays from 1:00PM to 5:00PM.
~Visiting hours for FEMALE inmates are Tuesdays from 6:00PM to 7:30PM & Sundays from 10:00AM to 11:30AM.

Q. Can I visit more than once per day?
A. No, you may only visit the same inmate once in the same day. Inmates may have as many visitors as the time allotments allow. Visits usually last from 10 to 15 minutes.

Q. Can anybody visit an inmate?
A. All individuals are allowed to visit inmates unless otherwise prohibited by court order. There are no age requirements, however, all children under the age of 17 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Q. What Items can I bring to someone in jail?
A.
  • Money - Cash or Money Orders only
    • Money may be brought to the Sheriff's Office between 8am & 5pm Monday through Friday, or Money Orders will be accepted by mail. No personal checks will be accepted, and no money will be taken during visiting hours.
  • False Teeth Fastener
  • Acne Medication (in a plastic container)
  • Prescription Eyeglasses (No sunglasses without a written order by a doctor for an eye condition)
  • Prescription Medication (In original containers only)
  • Plastic container for contact lenses
  • Cleaning Solution (Closed & Sealed)
  • Items such as colored pencils, paper, clothing, playing cards, and over the counter mediations may no longer be brought to inmates at the Sheridan County Detention Center. Those items, however, may be purchased by inmates through our commisary provider.

  • All items brought to inmates from an outside source must be clearly marked with the inmates full name. Loss due to unmarked or unclearly marked items are not the responsibility of the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office.

  • Any or all of the above may be waived by the administration for the security and safety of the Detention Center at any time.
