Patrol

The Sheridan County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division is comprised of 20 sworn Peace Officers, 17 of which are on active patrol assignments.

The Patrol Division also includes:
(1) School Resource Deputy
(1) Community Resource Deputy
(1) D.A.R.E. Deputy
(1) K-9 Deputy
(1) Courthouse Deputy

The Sheriff's Office conducts regular patrols throughout Sheridan County, with its base of operations at the Sheriff's Office in the city of Sheridan. Deputies patrol hundreds of miles, which includes several small communities, farm and ranch land, and vast areas of coal bed methane development.

The demands on the Sheriff's Office has certainly increased in the past several years. Between 2001 and 2005, the Sheriff's Office has seen an increase of 43% in the number of case reports generated. Though that increase certainly demonstrates an increased demand on the patrol division, it inevitably impacts the Detention Center with increased jail populations, and the civilian staff with additional time demands as well.

NEWS:

Courthouse Deputy - Beginning in November, 2007, the Sheriff's Office began posting a Deputy at the County Courthouse during business hours. That Deputy is primarily responsible for security of the entire facility, but also attends court hearings and is designated as the primary responder to any major incidents that may occur.
