About Patrol in Sheridan County

Sheriff Dave W. Hofmeier & Patrol Lt. Mark Conrad
12 Year Sheriff's Office Veteran, Mark Conrad, was recently promoted to Lieutenant. Lt. Conrad will be heading up our Patrol Division as well as our School Resource / D.A.R.E. Program.

The Sheriff's Office conducts regular patrols throughout Sheridan County, with its base of operations in the City of Sheridan. Deputies patrol some 2,500 square miles of Sheridan County, which includes several small communities, farm and ranch land, and vast areas of coalbed methane development.

The demands on the Sheriff's Office have increased steadily over the past several years. Between 2000 and 2006, the Sheriff's Office has seen an increase of approxiamtely 45% in the number of investigative reports that we generate. Though that increase certaily demonstrates an increased demand on the Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, it inevitably impacts the Detention Center with increased jail populations, and the civilian staff with additional time demands as well.

In November, 2007, the Sheriff's Office took on a new role at the Sheridan County Courthouse. Since that time, Sheriff's deputies have been actively working in the courthouse to provide security for the courtrooms and other county employees working in the building. This role is a part of the office's patrol division and rotates through all of our patrol deputies.
