Public Notice: Local Emergency Planning Committee

The Sheridan County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is a state entity created pursuant to the Emergency Planning and Community Right To Know Act of 1986 and the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA Title III). The LEPC has been established in accordance with the Wyoming State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) guidelines. The primary purpose of the LEPC is to implement SARA Title III requirements within Sheridan County. The broader purpose is to enhance environmental protection and public health and safety as affected by the chemical hazards in Sheridan County. The LEPC consists of representatives from local and state government, emergency management, law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services, health, hospital, environmental, transportation, media, industry, education, and community groups.

The LEPC Bylaws, meeting agendas and minutes, as well as other related business items are available for public review by contacting the Sheridan County Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) at (307) 675-2569 or the LEPC Chairman at (307)752-1321. All SARA Title III documents submitted to the LEPC are available for public viewing by appointment during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, at the Sheridan Fire/Rescue Department, located at 151 South Scott Street, Sheridan, Wyoming. This includes annual hazardous chemical inventory reports contained in SARA Tier I and II reports. All information requests by the public shall be submitted in a written, notarized letter stating the reason for the specific facility document review.  The LEPC response to requests made in writing will occur no later than 45 days after date of receipt of the request. Written requests for information shall be sent to Sheridan County Emergency Management, 224 South Main, Suite B-1, Sheridan, WY. 82801, Attn: LEPC Chairman.

The LEPC meets monthly or may meet more frequently at the discretion of its Chairman. Meetings are not scheduled in July, August, and December. Meetings are held at the Sheridan County Courthouse in the Second Floor Public Meeting Room. Meetings are regularly scheduled for the third Wednesday of the month starting at 5:30PM and are open to the public.  Entry to the Courthouse is through the west doors between 5:15 PM and 5:45 PM. Notice of the next planned meeting is included in the previous month’s minutes.

This public notice is published annually as required under Section 324 (b) of the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act of 1986 regarding hazardous materials.
