
Russ M. Hoop, ex-sheriff of Sheridan County; (Democrat); Born February 22, 1868, Danville, Ohio; son of Phillip H. and Rachael (Donohue) Hoop. He received his education in the public schools of Danville and graduated in 1884 at the High school in Sidney, Iowa. He resided in Iowa, from 1876 until 1884. In 1884, Mr. Hoop located in Wyoming, and was employed in the stock business near Rawlins, by Rankin Bros., from 1884 until 1885. He was employed in the cattle business all over the western states. In 1893, he located permanently in Sheridan, and rode the range and engaged in various employments until 1903, at which time he took a position as patrolman in the city of Sheridan. Mr. Hoop became assistant chief of police in Sheridan in 1906 and occupied that position until 1910, at which time he was elected sheriff of Sheridan County. He was re-elected in 1912, and his last term of office expired in 1915. His address is Sheridan, Wyoming.

Russ Marchellus Hoop, 71, resident of Sheridan for 40 years and a former Sheridan County sheriff, died early this morning at his home at 410 South Linden Avenue after a long illness.
Hoop is survived by his wife, Jane Hoop; a step-daughter, Mrs. Ogarita Ragen, and a step granddaughter, Mrs. Maribel Weigand of Sheridan. He was born in Ohio on February 22, 1868.
Funeral arrangements were being made today by the Champion funeral home.
