Our School Resource Program places Deputies in the schools with the goal of creating and maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, teachers, and staff. This program is a reflection of the Sheriff’s Office & Communities strong desire to keep our children safe.
Our Deputies are in the Schools to fulfill three roles:
- First and foremost, they are Law Enforcement Officers. Their primary purpose as a LEO is to “Keep the Peace” in the schools so that students can learn and teachers can teach
- Second, they are law-related counselors who provide guidance on law-related issues to students and act as a link to support services both inside and outside the school environment
- Third, they are law-related teachers who provide schools with an additional educational resource by sharing their expertise in the classroom.
The School Resource Program is a promising strategy. It enables communities and schools to address schol violence with both prevention and intervention techniques. Having a School Resource Deputy in our schools can prevent problems from happening. It can enhance a school’s capacity to address its safety and security concerns. When problems to arrise, School Resource Deputies can quickly intervene to address what is taking place.
Ultimately, the presence of our deputies in the schools is to make the school safer and more secure for our students, teachers, and staff. The community also benefits, because learning is more likely to take place in a safer and more secure environment.
