Sheridan Joint Planning Area – Plan Update

The Board of Sheridan County Commissioners is seeking individuals that are willing to serve on an Advisory Committee that will assist in the preparation of an update to the Land Use Plan for the Sheridan Joint Planning Area (2009). In cooperation with the City of Sheridan, it is the desire of the Board to assemble a team, representing area leaders, citizens and professionals that are dedicated to working on this plan. Committee members must actively participate in several meetings, encourage public participation, review information prepared in support of the plan and provide recommendations over a 12 month period. Anticipated planning topics include:

  • Coordination and clarification of the development process to provide for logical growth patterns
  • Resolution of inconsistent zoning districts
  • Identification and plan for industrial districts for future jobs and industry
  • Identification and locations for housing and neighborhoods
  • Clearly defined urban/rural and agricultural edge for Sheridan that accommodates rural lifestyles near the city
  • Identification of existing municipal water and other infrastructure that have capacity to accommodate new growth
  • Identification and addressing of areas with rural septic systems that are creating water quality and environmental problems or potential development constraints
  • Ensure an adequate water supply for current and future generations of residents and businesses
  • Identification of open lands and access for recreation

Prospective members must complete an Application for Appointment to a Sheridan County Commission/Board/Committee no later than November 21, 2014. The Commissioners will then review the list of candidates and make appointments. Work on the plan should commence in November and December.
